Story:
"The expedition to climb the tallest mountain in North America, Denali, has now begun. Stepping off the ski plane at 7,200ft I was immersed in a world of ice and snow that would be my home for the next 3 weeks. Guides and climbers clamored to get their crew and gear together and there was a consistent flow of planes on the runway. Crews returning from their expeditions lined the runway, waiting like exuberant hitchhikers who were a bit worse for wear for a flight home. They looked at the newcomers with a sense of amusement and acknowledgment of the trials that lay ahead for them. As we strapped on snow shoes and secured heavy packs and sleds, the magnitude of our goal loomed above us, both daunting and thrilling. Each step up the Kahiltna Glacier was a reminder of the isolation and sheer beauty of this icy wilderness. The crisp air and sweeping expanse of untouched snow stretched in every direction, creating a surreal, almost otherworldly atmosphere that was equal parts breathtaking and humbling.”
