Story:
“Visiting my mom’s best friend, Michelle, who she met while traveling the world in her early 20s, was an cathartic experience. Michelle and her husband live on a 180-acre, completely off-the-grid, self-sustaining farm. Growing up, I only knew Michelle through the occasional video calls she shared with my mom, so when I found myself in the Western Hemisphere, I couldn’t miss the chance to meet her and experience her world firsthand.
Their lifestyle was fascinating—a serene existence far removed from the background hum of suburban life. They sourced water from a spring, power from the sun, and practiced a level of resourcefulness I’d never seen before. Their farm, teeming with life from horses to a pet wallaby, felt like a pocket of paradise. Michelle’s advice, lived fully in her every action, stuck with me: 'Do whatever makes your heart sing.'
During my stay, she insisted we visit the coast, and on a bright summer day, we drove two and a half hours to Byron Bay. Walking along the shoreline, with strong winds whipping past and waves crashing fiercely against the cliffs, I was captivated by the raw energy of the ocean. From a high outcropping, I trained my telephoto lens downward, capturing the dramatic motion of the waves as they broke relentlessly against the rugged coast—nature’s power frozen in a single frame."
